List of Indian journalists

This list of Indian journalists includes notable journalists working in India who write and speak in one of many official languages of that country.

A

• M. J. Akbar, Mobashar Jawed Akbar, (11 January 1951– ) an English-language journalist and editor-in-chief for the The Sunday Guardian and Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad)
• Javed Anand, (ca. 1950– ) an alternative journalist, co-founder of Sabrang Communications, and co-editor of Communalism Combat, who is married to journalist Teesta Setalvad. The couple shared the Maharana Mewar Foundation's Hakim Khan Sur Award in 1999.^[1]

• Shireen Bhan, an executive editor who was named as a 2009 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader^[2][3][4]
• Neeraj Badhwar (1980- ) Deputy Director of Sahara Samay and Journalist in Times of India
• Anubha Bhonsle, a television and print journalist, a winner of the Ramnath Goenka Award for Best Political Reporter, 2012 and the Chameli Devi Award for Woman Media Person of the Year, 2014.^[5]
• Praful Bidwai (ca 1949–2015), a journalist and activist against nuclear armaments, a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,^[6] who along with Achin Vanaik won the 2000 Sean McBride Peace Prize.

C

• Vikram Chandra (7 January 1967– ), a journalist, anchor, and group CEO at NDTV. His mother is former journalist Nandini Chandra^[2]
• Devyani Chaubal (1942–1995), Indian film journalist and columnist of 60s and 70s.^[7]
• Shoma Chaudhury, managing editor of the Indian daily Tehelka. She has won Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards for print journalism in 2007,^[8] the Chameli Devi Award in 2009,^[9] and the Mumbai Press Club Award for Political Writing in 2012 on Soni Sori titled, 'The Inconvenient Truth of Soni Sori'.^[10]
• Sudhir Chaudary is the senior editor and business head of Zee News where he hosts the prime time show, Daily News & Analysis (DNA).^[11] Over the period of two decades, he has worked at several Hindi news channels.
• Prabhu Chawla (2 October 1946 – ), he is a recipient of Padma Bhushan and regarded as one of India's finest political journalists, Chawla is known for his sharp political analysis and investigative reports. In his 40 years as reporter and editor, he has written extensively on events that changed the political course of India and people who engineered them. Editorial Director of The New Indian Express Group as on 2016.

D

• Dibang, a senior journalist and member of a debate panel with the news channel ABP News, is rated among the best Hindi anchors in the industry today.[1] He is also hosting prime-time show Jana Mana on ABP news.
• Sucheta Dalal (ca 1962– ), an influential female columnist, who is the winner of the civilian award Padma Shri in 2006^[12]
• Swapan Dasgupta (3 September 1955– ), a senior editor at multiple major newspapers in India and TV personality
• Alfred D'Cruz, the first Indian sub-editor of The Times of India, Mumbai in 1947, when Britishers Sir Francis Low was the Editor and Claude Scott was the News Editor. Editor of The Times of India Directory & Yearbook 1984.^[13] Co-author of 'Saligao: Focus on a Picturesque Goan Village'. Awarded posthumously the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Journalist Association of India in 2012^[14] and the Laxmidas Borkar Memorial Award in 2013.^[15]
• Jyotirmoy Dey, an investigative journalist who was murdered 11 June 2011^[16][17] and posthumously awarded the Prem Bhatia Award in 2011 for political reporter of the year, which he shared with Josy Joseph (see below)^[18]
• Vinod Dua is a journalist, news anchor, political commentator, election analyst who was called the face of Indian television due to his decades of television journalism. He is a recipient of Padma Shri (2008).
• Bahar Dutt, an environmental and wildlife journalist and editor for CNN-IBN Live and winner of multiple awards, including the 2006 Ramnath Goenka Award for excellence in environmental reporting,^[19] as well as sister of Barkha Dutt
• Barkha Dutt of NDTV, one of India's most well-known female journalists^[2][3] and a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,^[20] as well as sister of Bahar Dutt and daughter of early female Indian journalist Prabha Dutt
• David Devadas, a well-known Indian author, journalist, commentator and documentary film-maker. He is the author of In Search of a Future: The story of Kashmir, a critically acclaimed book on Kashmir Conflict.

• T. J. S. George (7 May 1928– ), who is a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,^[6]
• Gour Kishore Ghosh,^[21] winner of the 1981 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts
• Santosh Kumar Ghosh, an award-winning Bengali journalist and editor of Anandabazar Patrika (The namesake of the "Santosh Kumar Ghosh Memorial Award")^[22]
• Ramnath Goenka^[23][24] Founder of India Express Group and publisher of the English-language The Indian Express, Hindi-language Jansatta, and Marathi-language Loksatta
• J. Gopikrishnan (10 April 1971– ), cartoonist
• Arnab Goswami, Times Now, winner of the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism for the year 2010 in the category of TV journalism.^[25][26]
• Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, independent journalist and writer.
• Kanchan Gupta, is an Indian journalist, political analyst and activist who was associated with The Pioneer and has also worked in the PMO.

• H K Sethi, Secy. General Journalist Association of India (www.jaoi.org ) and Journalists Federation of India, (www.jfoi.org).
• Sajjad Haider, (b.21 October 1966-) is media personality of Indian administered Kashmir, Editor-in-Chief Trans Asia News Service and Founder of Kashmir Observer
• Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Editor-in-chief of the largest selling Punjabi-language newspaper, Daily Ajit, from Jalandhar.

• B. K. Karanjia (1919–2012), Indian film journalist and editor, Filmfare and Screen, chairman NFDC
• Kalki Krishnamurthy,^[23] a well-known Tamil editor, columnist and the founder of Kalki magazine.
• Ravish Kumar, is a news anchor, writer and journalist who is the executive editor of NDTV India where he hosts a number of programmes including the channel's flagship weekday show Prime Time, Hum Log and Ravish Ki Report.

• Ashok Malik a former senior editor for English-language newspaper Indian Express and current columnist for The Times of India, Economic Times, Pioneer and other publications
• Annamma Mathew (22 March 1922 – 10 July 2003), chief editor of the Malayalam-language Vanitha women's magazine for Malayala Manorama and wife of K. M. Mathew
• K. M. Mathew (2 January 1917 – 1 August 2010), known as the chief editor of Malayala Manorama, which has the largest circulation of any Malayalam-language newspaper, and husband of Annamma Mathew
• Inder Malhotra, received the Ramnath Goenka Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013^[28]
• Udayan Mukherjee^[2] 2012, Ramnath Goenka Awards, Managing Editor for CNBC India

• A. G. Noorani (16 September 1930– ), a columnist, as well as a historian and lawyer, who is a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,^[6]

• Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, or Mrs. Y. G. P., (8 November 1925– ), who was a 2010 Padma Shri civilian award recipient^[29][30]
• Nanasaheb Parulekar (20 September 1898 – 8 January 1973), a founder of Marathi-language newspaper Sakal and chairman of the Press Trust of India, a news agency.
• Aroon Purie is an Indian businessman who is the founder-publisher and editor-in-chief of India Today and the chief executive of the India Today Group. He is the managing director of Thomson Press (India) Limited and the chairman and managing director of TV Today. He is also the editor-in-chief of Reader's Digest India.^[31]

• Sayyid Ahmedullah Qadri ( 9 August 1909 – 5 October 1985), recipient of PadmaShri Awardee in 1966, MLC, Member of State Library Hyderabad, Chairman of Hajj Committee, Andhra Pradesh.

• N. P. Rajendran, an award-winning editor of Mathrubhumi and Malayalam-language journalist^[32][33]
• Nidhi Razdan, recipient of the 2007 Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism^[34]
• Sai Reddy, a reporter for the Hindi-language Deshandhu, was killed by Maoists 6 December 2013, in Basaguda, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh.^[35]
• Prannoy Roy, (b. 15 October 1949-) is an Indian journalist and media personality. He is the co-founder and executive co-chairperson of New Delhi Television (NDTV)^[3]

• Palagummi Sainath,^[36] winner of the 2007 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts
• Rohit Sardana is an editor, columnist, news anchor. He is associated with Zee News where he hosts his popular debate program Taal Thok Ke.
• Rajdeep Sardesai (24 May 1965– ), editor-in-chief at IBN18 Network,^[2][3] who is a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,^[6]
• Niranjan Sengupta, a former president of the National Union of Journalist (India) (Namesake of the "Niranjan Sengupta Memorial Award")^[22]
• Teesta Setalvad, an award-winning alternative journalist and human rights activist,^[37][38] co-founder of Sabrang Communications, and co-editor of Communalism Combat
• Rajat Sharma is the chairman and editor in chief of an Indian Hindi news channel, India TV. He is a recipient of Padma Bhushan (2015).
• Arun Shourie,^[39][40][40] is a World Press Freedom hero and winner of the 1982 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts
• Puripanda Appala Swamy (13 November 1904 – 183 November 1982), a Telugu writer, journalist and editor.
• A Saye Sekhar, Editor at MeraEvents & Author at Firstpost (Network 18 Group).

• Om Thanvi, Hindi journalist. Executive Editor for Jansatta, Hindi daily of The Indian Express group.
• Karan Thapar, an award-winning news commentator^[3][32]
